Clean River Becomes a Desire of City Dwellers
Having a clean and evergreen city definitely becomes a desire of every single city dweller. However, to make it happen is required a hard work and great concern of all parties. In order to accomplish such an ideal aspiration, the Denpasar Environment Agency continued to conduct various programs. One of them was by taking the community of Ubung Kaja, right the hamlet of Tegal Kori Kaja and Tegal Kori Kangin to perform a greening activity at the riverside and clean up services en masse.This matter was conveyed by the Head of Denpasar Environment Agency AA. Bagus Sudharsana when he was met in the midst of clean-up service activity at the hamlet of Tegal Kori, Sunday (Oct 10).
Furthermore, Sudharsana added that such an activity was one of the activities committed by the Denpasar Municipality to realize the green and clean river. It was carried out because the river was the source of raw water in Denpasar. He also explained why his party chose the river as the object of sanitation movement at that time because Denpasar located at the downstream and highly vulnerable to flooding. So, to overcome the problems, the rivers passing through Denpasar City should be thoroughly clean and green.
“We start first the activity from Tegal Kori and later on the clean-up and greening will be continued to other riversides,” explained Sudharsana. In the recent greening, Sudharsana claimed to plant 700 trees of different species and they particularly related to the demands for ceremony. The tree planting activities involved the local hamlets existing along the river, the PKK group and village youth clubs.
With the direct involvement of local community as that time, according to Sudharsana, would certainly become the responsibility of local community to further maintain the plants and riverside area cleaned up. He expected such riverside clean-up and greening activities could be followed by other villages within the Denpasar City. By doing so, the expectation to realize the clean and green Denpasar could be achieved more quickly.
In the meantime, the Village Head of Ubung Kaja, Gusti Ngurah Bagus Arjana, recognized that the riverside clean-up movement and the greening program coordinated by the Denpasar Environment Agency was excellent to realize the clean and green river. Of course, the impact of the movement could reduce the possibility of flooding hazards. According to Arjana, it had become a collective obligation of the entire community to support the activities as it was for the sake of common interests.
To sum up, it suggested that people were aware that the sanitation and fluency of river’s water was for the sake of common interest. With the activities involving the public directly as that time, Arjana said it would drive people to have a sense of belonging and obligation to participate in cleaning up the rivers.
